An elastoplastic damage model for concrete was developed and implemented into LS-DYNA. TTI researchers evaluated the material model for use in roadside safety applications. The evaluation of the material model investigated appropriate model input parameters and correlation of simulations with test data including bogie vehicle impact of full-scale reinforced concrete beams, pendulum impact of bridge rails, and quasi-static loading of a concrete safety shape barrier. Use of this model has greatly enhanced the ability of researchers to capture various concrete failure modes in dynamic impacts of concrete barriers and barriers attached to concrete bridge decks.
